The Southern Miss Homecoming Celebration dates back to 1925, when the first fall Homecoming was held. The week leading up to the Homecoming game is packed with traditions for students to participate in, including: the Homecoming Kickoff, Bring It On Eagle-Style, a day of service, the Fountain Sit, and Friday Night at Spirit Park. Game Day begins with the annual Homecoming Parade and culminates with the Golden Eagle Football Team in action at the Rock.

Miss USM is an annual scholarship competition that allows candidates to demonstrate their talents and their love for Southern Miss. Candidates compete in interviews with judges, evening wear, and onstage questions. The winner of the Miss USM competition moves on to compete at the Miss Mississippi competition held in Vicksburg every June.

Lighting the Way is Southern Miss's newest official tradition, orchestrated by the Student Government Association as an annual holiday celebration. This festive event, held just after Thanksgiving, illuminates Southern Miss and brings the Hattiesburg community together to kick off the holiday season.

Creed Week is a week-long celebration of the Creed of the University of Southern Mississippi. The Creed is something that all students agree to when they decide to attend Southern Miss. Creed Week serves to educate students about the Creed and to remind students of the importance of acting with integrity, exhibiting respect, and maintaining focus on scholarly pursuits throughout their time at Southern Miss. Students have opportunities to participate in community service and community building activities throughout Creed Week.

Freshmen Fest is an exciting event hosted in the spring semester by our SGA Freshmen Associates. The festivities are centered around bonding activities for the freshman class, however, all students are welcome to attend and participate in games and arts and crafts, meet new people, and tie-dye a T-shirt!
